HomeMy WebLinkAbout6502 RESOLUTION NO. 6 , 502 A RESOLUTION TO URGE THE 73RD ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO PROVIDE MATCHING FUNDS FOR THE ZOO OF ARKANSAS. WHEREAS , the Little Rock Zoo has been redesignated as the Zoo of Arkansas in recognition of the fact that sixty-five (65 ) percent of the visitors to the Zoo come from outside the City of Little Rock; and WHEREAS, the Zoo of Arkansas has been funded solely by the City since its inception; and WHEREAS, there is a dire need to provide a more NATURAL habitate for lions , tigers , etc . to be known as "Big Cat Country; " and WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock has received a 50/50 matching federal grant in the amount of $350 ,000 to provide this improvement to the Zoo of Arkansas; and WHEREAS, the 72nd Arkansas General Assembly passed legislation to provide matching funds under Category B and C of the Revenue Stabilization Act which was not funded; and WHEREAS , the time of the aforementioned grant will be withdrawn if matching funds are not forthcoming . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1 . That the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock firmly supports the Zoo of Arkansas concept in its plans to improve the Zoo. SECTION 2. That the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock urges the 73rd General Assembly to appropriate a minimum of $350 ,000 in Category A as matching funds for this important project .
