A RESOLUTION TO THE ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF
HIGHWAYS AND TRANSPORTATION TO INVESTIGATE
AND CONSIDER VARIOUS FUNDING SOURCES AVAIL-
ABLE TO THE DEPARTMENT FOR IMPROVING OR ASSIST-
ING IN THE IMPROVEMENT OF THAT AREA OF MARKHAM
STREET FROM SHACKLEFORD ROAD TO THE ROCK CREEK
PARKWAY ; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .
WHEREAS , the City of Little Rock is responsible for the pro-
motion of the health and welfare of her citizens ; and
WHEREAS , the building and maintenance of adequate street sys-
tems are a necessary part of that responsibility ; and
WHEREAS , the City , under a bond issue , is widening Markham
Street to a four-lane street between Ellis and Shackleford Road;
and
WHEREAS , the Rock Creek Parkway has been improved to meet urban
standards ; and
WHEREAS , there remains a section between Shackleford Road and
the Rock Creek Parkway that needs to be improved to urban design
standards ; and
WHEREAS , the City' s Federal Aid Urban Funds have been committed
to bond issue projects through 1980 .
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS .
SECTION 1 . The Board of Directors of the city of Little Rock
request the Arkansas Department of Highways and Transportation to
investigate and consider various funding sources available to the
Department for improving or assisting in the improvement of that
section of Markham Street from Shackleford Road to the Rock Creek
Parkway.
SECTION 2 . This resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
