HomeMy WebLinkAbout5905 RESOLUTION NO 5,905 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE PROPOSED 1978 FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION ACT WHICH ELIMI- NATES THE URBAN HIGH DENSITY TRAFFIC CORRIDOR PROGRAM; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS, the proposed 1978 Federal Transportation Act would eliminate the Urban High Density Traffic Corridor Program and thus bring to a halt several projects throughout the State of Arkansas , among which is the East Belt Freeway in the City of Little Rock, all currently under construction; and WHEREAS, by stopping those construction programs unemployment will increase across the state and adversely affect the economy of the state and the City of Little Rock; and WHEREAS , the East Belt Freeway is vital to the continued economic development of the Little Rock-North Little Rock Metropolitan Area; and, WHEREAS, with the said Freeway being two-thirds complete the one hundred million dollars spent on the project will have been a total waste unless federal funding is continued enabling this and other such projects to be completed. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS . SECTION 1. The Secretary of Transportation, Congress and the President are strongly urged to enact legislation providing federal funding for the Urban High Density Traffic Corridor Program enabling the completion of the East Belt Freeway program in Little Rock and North Little Rock and other similar programs across the state of Ark- ansas, all currently under construction. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall be in fullfbrce and effect from and after its adoption. ADOPTED: February 21, 1978 ATTEST: APPROVED: City Clerk Mayor
