A Resolution Supporting and Directing the
Preparation of a Master Bikeway Plan and
Requesting the Arkansas Highway Department
to Continue the Development of the I-630
Bikeway for Other Purposes .
WHEREAS, opportunities are available to obtain Federal Funds
for the construction of bikeway segments in accordance with a
projected master plan.
WHEREAS, a well planned community should have a variety of
transportation modes for the health and well being of its citizens.
WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock recognizes the mandate for
developing alternated means of transportation because of energy
conservation necessities .
WHEREAS , the construction of a bikeway along I-630 is the
key element in developing a viable bikeway system connecting
shopping centers , schools, parks , neighborhoods , medical facilities
and other traffic generators.
WHEREAS , the City of Little Rock has developed and is
developing bikeway segments that eventually will tie into I-630 .
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS :
Section 1. That the Board of Directors hereby authorizes
the City Manager to have the Department of Parks and Recreation
and the Office of Comprehensive Planning cooperate with the
Arkansas Highway Department in developing the Master Bikeway Plan.
Section 2 . That the City of Little Rock pledges its support
to the Arkansas Highway Department in developing I-630 Bikeway
and encourages the Highway Department to continue its efforts in
obtaining funding for the remaining sections.
Section 3 . That the City will complete those segments of the
I-630 Bikeway in War Memorial and Kanis Parks where it is not
feasible to construct said Bikeway on the I-630 right of way.
Section 4 . This Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption.
