HomeMy WebLinkAbout5743 RESOLUTION NO. 5,743 A RESOLUTION URGING THE PULASKI COUNTY QUORUM COURT TO LEVY A COUNTYWIDE INCOME TAX AND TO CALL A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING THE QUESTION TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS IN THE COUNTY ALL AS PROVIDED BY ACT 942, ACTS OF ARKANSAS 1977; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas by Act 942 of 1977 has authorized counties, cities of the first and second class and incorporated towns to levy a local income tax in order to provide needed additional revenues subject to approval of the qualified electors in the areas affected; and WHEREAS, the demands and needs of the citizenry residing in the cities and county dictate and glaringly point to the need for additional revenues to provide those governmental services. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS. SECTION 1. The Pulaski County Quorum Court is hereby urged to levy a county- wide income tax and to call a special election at the earliest feasible time for the purpose of submitting the question to the qualified electors for approval all as authorized and provided by Act 942, Acts of Arkansas of 1977. SECTION 2. In the event there is a levy of a county-wide income tax in Pulaski County and such is approved by the qualified electors voting thereon, the City of Little Rock is committed to repeal the privilege and occupation license provisions of the Code of Ordinances. SECTION 3. Every member of the Board of Directors voting in the affirmative for the adoption of this Resolution personally pledges to support the levy of a county-wide income tax and encourage its approval by the electorate voting thereon. SECTION 4. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption. ADOPTED: June 21, 1977 ATTEST: APPROVED: Q,NuAtr., City Clerk Mayor I
