CODE § 2- 4 321 (1988) TO REDUCE THE AUTHORIZED NUMBER OF MEMBERS 5 OF THE RACIAL AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY COMMISSION; AND 6 FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 7 8 WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock Board of Directors created the Little Rock Racial and Cultural 9 Diversity Commission (the"Commission") in Little Rock Ordinance No. 16,722 (August 2, 1994); and, 10 WHEREAS, the Commission's mission is to promote equal opportunity and the full exercise of civil 11 rights for all citizens of the City, and 12 WHEREAS, the Commission is committed to dismantling racism and reducing prejudice within the 13 City through modeling, education and policy development, and 14 WHEREAS, the current members of the Commission have engaged in a thorough discussion about 15 the number of Commission members that will provide the most effective organization to carry out the 16 mission described above, and 17 WHEREAS,the Commission has also solicited the input of City management as to the optimum size 18 of the Commission; and 19 WHEREAS,the Commission has determined that reducing the authorized number of members from 20 nineteen (19)to thirteen (13) will still allow for diverse representation of the citizenry and ensure that the 21 size of the Commission is a manageable number. 22 NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY 23 OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS: 24 Section 1. Little Rock, Ark., Rev. Code("LRC") § 2-321 (1988) is hereby amended as follows: 25 The commission shall consist of thirteen (13) members. One member shall be 26 selected from each of the seven (7) City wards, one (1) member shall be selected 27 form the membership of the Little Rock School Board and five (5) members shall be 28 selected at-large. 29 Section 2. Severability. In the event any section, subsection, subdivision, paragraph, 30 subparagraph, item, sentence, clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared or adjudged to be 31 invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or adjudication shall not affect the remaining provisions of 32 this ordinance, as if such invalid or unconstitutional provision was not originally a part of this ordinance.
