HomeMy WebLinkAbout4907 I . 3 RESOLUTION NO. 4,907 A RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION TO THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROMOTION AND PRODUCTION OF THE 1972 CHRISTMAS PARADE HELD IN LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1972; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 2, 1972, local citizens and visitors to our City witnessed a Christmas Parade in downtown Little Rock where all shared in a joyous celebration at the beginning of this 1972 Christmas Season; and WHEREAS, it is significant to note that under these conditions people of all races, creeds, and economic status were observed in participation of a cause evidencing togetherness and total racial harmony; and WHEREAS, this nation and the world, for that matter, should be made cognizant and fully aware that the people of this community are dedicated to a cause of improving the role of mankind regardless of his race, creed, or economic status; and WHEREAS, the persons and entities responsible for the promotion and production of the 1972 Christmas Parade should be commended for a job well done. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The M. M. Cohn Company, Radio Station KALO, Little Rock Up, KATV television station and the Little Rock Police Department are hereby commended for the excellent 1972 Christmas Parade held on December 2, 1972 and for the role each played in making this event such a successful one for all the citizens of this community and those present as visitors, all of whom participated in the joyous occasion with obvious compassion for one another. SECTION 2. The film of the 1972 Christmas Day Parade as taped by KATV of Little Rock, Arkansas, should be made available for showing throughout the nation to all interested persons and especially at the National League of Cities Convention in 1973; to this end the Little Rock Advertising and Promotional Agency is requested to solicit a sponsor to finance the showing of said film, especially at the National League of Cities Convention and at such other events as it may be requested. Further, all people of this City, especially the business, political, labor and church leadership should pledge every effort so that this entire nation is aware of Little Rock's motivation, namely: "Progress for all People in Every Particular." 2 SECTION 3. A copy of this Resolution, duly certified, should be delivered to Mr. Robert Doubleday of KATV, Mr. Bernie Mann of KALO radio station, Mr. James Moses of Little Rock Up, Mr. Dan Phillips of M. M. Cohn and Chief Gale Weeks of the Little Rock Police Department. SECTION 4. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption.
