RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION AND SUPPORT
OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OFFERING RECREATION PRO-
GRAMS; AND DESIGNATING RECREATION ROUND-UP WEEK.
WHEREAS, many public and semi -public agencies are pro-
viding and are expanding recreational opportunities this summer to
persons of all income levels, both young and old.
WHEREAS, the City Board of Directors desire to recognize
and express its appreciation for agencies devoting considerable
time and effort towards developing outstanding programs with limited
resources.
WHEREAS, the Office of Economic Opportunity Agency of
Pulaski County has offered to assist and expand the Summer Play-
ground Program, operated by the City Parks and Recreation Department.
WHEREAS, the Junior Deputy Sheriff's Organization of
Pulaski County will again offer to conduct programs at the Water
Works, Barton and Allsopp Park Ballfields, and to assist with pro-
grams at West End Park . They will also conduct programs at Sweet-
Home and College Station.
WHEREAS, the Junior Deputy Sheriff 's Organization is
unable to continue with a supervised recreational program at Air-
port and Dunbar Ballfields, and since the Economic Opportunity
Agency of Pulaski County has the desire as well as the manpower
and resources to provide a supervised recreational program at
Airport and Dunbar Park Ballfields, and since it is most import-
ant to the welfare of the citizens residing in these areas that
supervised programs be conducted at these two parks, and since
hundreds of youngsters in this area will be without constructive
and supervised leadership which could further increase dissatis-
faction, and recognizing that the Office of Economic Opportunity

desires to assist in providing recreational opportunities to
underprivileged citizens and to maintain peace and tranquility,
the Junior Deputy Sheriff's Organization will voluntarily make
available these two facilities to the Office of Economic Oppor-
tunity .
WHEREAS, various Junior and Adult Golf Clinics will
be offered by the Parks and Recreation Department to the citizens
of Little Rock at War Memorial and Rebsamen Park Golf Courses.
WHEREAS, various Tennis Clinics will be offered
through the Summer Playground Program at various parks .
WHEREAS, the Red Cross Agency will again provide a
"Learn to Swim" Program and other safety programs at War Memorial
and Gillam Swimming Pools.
WHEREAS, all the above programs and others offer the
opportunity of enrichment of body and spirit, life and soul , and
the Little Rock Board of Directors pledges its appreciation and
support .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE I T RESOLVED BY THE CITY BOARD OF
DIRECTORS, that the week of June 8- 14 is proclaimed, "RECREATION
ROUND-UP WEEK" for the citizens of Little Rock.
