CODE §2- 4 116 (1988) THAT SETS THE COMPENSATION FOR THE BOARD OF 5 DIRECTORS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 6 7 WHEREAS, pursuant to Ark. Code Ann. § 14-61-110 (West 2004)the citizens can permit the Board 8 of Directors and the Mayor to receive compensation for service to the City, and to set the amount of such 9 compensation by ordinance; and, 10 WHEREAS,the citizens of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, voted in 1993 to permit compensation 11 to be paid to the Mayor and Members of the Board of Directors; and, 12 WHEREAS,the salary set for Board of Directors Members in 1994 was $12,000.00 per year; and, 13 WHEREAS, the compensation for the members of the Board of Directors has not changed in the 14 nineteen (19) years since the initial ordinance was passed, and based upon the increases in the consumer 15 price index since that time this $12,000.00 salary would now be equal to$18,798.77; and, 16 WHEREAS,a study of similar sized cities capital cities such as Baton Rouge,Louisiana,Boise Idaho, 17 Richmond, Virginia, Des Moines, Iowa, Salt Lake City, Utah, Tallahassee, Florida, Providence, Rhode 18 Island, and Jackson, Mississippi, reveals that governing body members in those cities all receive salaries 19 and benefits in excess of the amount paid to the Directors of the City of Little Rock; 20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY 21 OF LITTLE ROCK,ARKANSAS: 22 Section 1. Little Rock,Ark., Rev. Code §2-116(2) is hereby amended to read as follows: Each mem- 23 ber of the Board of Directors, other than the Mayor, shall receive an annual salary of Eighteen Thousand 24 Dollars($18,000.00). 25 Section 2. In addition to an annual salary, each member of the Board of Directors, other than the 26 Mayor, shall receive the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars($250.00)a month as an office allowance. 27 Section 3. Severability. In the event any section, subsection, subdivision, paragraph, subparagraph, 28 item, sentence, clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared or adjudged to be invalid or 29 unconstitutional, such declaration or adjudication shall not affect the remaining provisions of this 30 ordinance, as if such invalid or unconstitutional provision were not originally a part of this ordinance. 31 Section 4. Repealer.
