HomeMy WebLinkAbout3069 RESOLUTION NO. 3,069 A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ALL PERSONS ASSISTING IN THE RESCUE OF CERTAIN TRAPPED FIREMEN IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES . WHEREAS, on September 28, 1963, a serious fire occurred in the downtown area of Little Rock; and WHEREAS, in the course of combating the fire, as aforesaid, three Little Rock firemen were trapped by a collapsed wall resulting in the death of one fireman and the severe injury to the other two firemen; and WHEREAS, certain members of the public at or near the scene of the tragedy, together with Fire Department personnel, responded to the emergency of rescue operations and, with disregard for their personal safety, did materially aid and assist in the rescue of the three trapped firemen; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, to express its appreciation, the appreciation of the families and loved ones of the three firemen, and of the public of this City, by recognizing the participants in the rescue operations; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. Eddie Green, Robert L. Livingston, Jack Wood, Floyd Ray, George Miller and H. L. Crump, together with any and all unknown per- sons so acting, and the Little Rock Fire Department present and acting at the scene are hereby extended the sincere appreciation and gratitude of this Board of Directors, speaking in its own behalf and in behalf of the public of this City, for their voluntary, selfless and heroic actions in rescuing the firemen trapped as a result of a fire in the downtown area of Little Rock on September 28, 1963 . SECTION 2. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption. ADOPTED: October 7, 1963 ATTEST: �e. APPROVED: `l\ City Clerk Mayor.
