HomeMy WebLinkAbout2039 RESOLUTION NO 2039 BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE WOMEN'S CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF GREATER LITTLE ROCK, REQUESTS THE REMOVAL AND RAZING OF BUILDINGS , HOUSES AND OTHER STRUCTURES WITHIN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS , WHICH CONSTITUTE FIRE AND HEALTH HAZARDS , AND REQUEST THAT SUCH ACTION BE TAKEN AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO COMPEL THE REMOVAL ANT.) ACCOMPLISH THE RESULTS OF ALL ORDINANCES ALREADY PASSED OR THAT MAY BE PASSED IN THE FUTURE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas , has passed Ordinances condemning approximately ninety-one (91) structures as fire and health hazards and only about nineteen (19) have been removed or remedied, and , WHEREAS, these Ordinances provide fines or penalties for such violations, we feel such fines and penalties should be enforced, and , WHEREAS , the condition of such property constitutes serious fire and health hazards to the citizens of the City of Little Rock, and, WHEREAS, unless immediate action is taken to remedy this deplorable situation by removing and razing said buildings, there is a great danger that surrounding residences , schools, hospitals and businesses may be destroyed by fire originating in such unsafe and hazardous structures , and , WHEREAS, such structures are breeding places for rats, rodents , and other disease germ carriers , such buildings also constitute a serious menace to the health of all of the citizens of our City, and they should be removed and razed for the purpose of eliminating all hazards, and, WHEREAS, the removal of such condemned structures would aid in keeping fire insurance rates down, reduce the expense of fighting fires in condemned buildings and inspection costs , and WHEREAS, much time , effort and money are spent by the City combating fires and health problems involving these structures , and, WHEREAS, the fire loss for Arkansas in 1953 was $10, 714 .104.00; Little Rock 's loss was $594 , 167.04 , or $5.31 per capita . There were 168 deaths by fire in our State in 1953 and 158 deaths during the first tan months of 1954 . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Woten 's Chamber of Commerce of Greater Little Rock believing an emergency exists , offers their assistance and cooperation in ridding our City of these hazards and public nusiances which constitute a menace to the health, safety morale and welfare of all ihhabitants of the City of Little Rock.
