A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE
TO GIVE THE AIRPLANE "BATAAN" TO THE CITY OF LITTLE
ROCK, ARKANSAS, AFTER IT HAS BEEN RETIRED FROM SER-
VICE, SO THAT IT MAY BE PLACED IN MacARTHUR PARK.
_HEREAS General Douglas MacArthur was born in a build-
ing in the old City Park, which has now been re-named MacArthur
Park in his honor, and
':WHEREAS the building in which he was born and which is
now used as a museum is being renovated and is rapidly becoming a
sightseeing place, and
ViT-TEREAS, as MacArthur Park will in time become a
National Shrine, it is highly desirable that the airplane "Bataan",
which was used by General MacArthur as his personal plane, be
obtained by the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, for the purpose of
placing it in the park:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
TIE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Little Rock, Arkansas,
acting through its Mayor, request the United States Air Force to
turn over to it the airplane "Bataan", when such plane is retired
from duty, so that this plane may be placed in MacArthur Park in
a suitable fashion for the purpose of comr._emorating the birthplace
of General MacArthur.
SECTION 2. That the Mayor of the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas, be and he is hereby authorized and directed to under-
take the duty of securing for the City of Little Rock the airplane
" 3ataan".
