RESOLUTION NO. 1756
A RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL
ELECTION FOR JULY 22 , 1947,
TO SUBMIT FOR A REFERENDUM VOTE
ORDINANCE NO. 7274 .
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas, did on the 5th day of May, 1947, enact and approve
Ordinance No . 7274 which is entitled, "An Ordinance to Amend
Ordinance No . 876, Entitled 'An Ordinance Granting a Right of
Way over Certain Streets of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas,
to the Little Rock Traction and. Electric Company for the Con-
struction, Operation and Maintenance of a Street Railway
System' , Passed September 27, 1901; By Granting to Capital
Transportation Company, Assignee of said Franchise, its Suc-
cessors and Assigns, the Exclusive Right to Operate Trackless
Trolleys and Buses over Certain Routes and Streets in the City
of Little Rock and for Other Purposes ."; and
WHEREAS, on the 4th day of June, 1947, a petition of
referendum was filed in the office of the City Clerk of the
City of Little Rock, Arkansas, asking that said Ordinance No .
7274 be submitted at an election to the voters of the City of
Little Rock as provided by the referendum laws; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has examined the petition of
referendum and finds said petition contains the requisite number
of signatures of the qualified voters of the City of Little
Rock, and therefore it is necessary that an election be called
and said Ordinance referred to the voters of the City of Little
Rock;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
Section 1 . That a special general election is hereby
ordered to be conducted in all the polling precincts in the
City of Little Rock under the direction of the Pulaski County
Election Commission, as provided by law, between the hours of
8:00 A . M. and 6: 30 P. M. on Tuesday, the22nd day of July,
1947, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters
of the City of Little Rock the approval or rejection of
Ordinance No. 7274.
Section 2. That the ballots at said election shall
contain substantially the following:

CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS
On the 5th day of May, 1947, the City Council of
the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed Ordinance No.
7274, granting to the Capital Transportation Company an ex-
clusive franchise for a period of twenty five (25) years to
operate trackless trolleys and busses over certain routes
in the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, said Ordinance being
entitled as follows: "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE NO.
876, ENTITLED 'AN ORDINANCE GRANTING A RIGHT OF WAY OVER
CERTAIN STREETS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, TO
THE LITTLE ROCK TRACTION AND ELECTRIC COMPANY FOR THE CON-
STRUCTION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A STREET RAILWAY
SYSTEM, ' PASSED SEPTEMBER 27, 1901; BY GRANTING TO CAPITAL
TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, ASSIGNEE OF SAID FRANCHISE, ITS
SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO OPERATE TRACK-
LESS TROLLEYS AND BUSSES OVER CERTAIN ROUTES AND STREETS
IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES."
This Ordinance has been referred to the people of the
City of Little Rock, Arkansas, under the provisions of Amend-
ment No. 7 to the Constitution of Arkansas of 1874, for the
people to decide whether such franchise ordinance should be
adopted.

Section 3. The Mayor is hereby authorized to cause to
be published immediately a copy of this Resolution by one in-

sertion in a newspaper published in the City of Little Rock
and having a general circulation in said City, and further,
to deliver one copy of this Resolution to the Sheriff of
Pulaski County and one copy to the Pulaski County Election
Commission. / /
