HomeMy WebLinkAbout1722 RESOLUTION NO. 1722 WHEREAS, on August 12, 1946 , the City Council of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas adopted a resolu- tion authorizing and directing the Mayor and Board of Water Works Commissioners to take all steps necessary, incidental and convenient to acquire said Gas Distribu- tion System; to employ auditors , attorneys, engineers, and all others necessary for said purchase; to provide for the sale of bonds , etc. , same being Resolution Pao. 1713, and WHEREAS, by the terms of Section 3 of said reso- lution the Mayor was duly authorized and directed to call a special election for ratification or rejection of the City Council ' s determination to acquire the Little Rock Gas Distribution System by the Electors of the City an db WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 1718, adopted August 26, 1946, the City Council amended Section 2 of said resolution numbered 1713 by expressly eliminating the Mayor to act as agent in the employment of auditors, attorneys , engineers, and others necessary for said pur- chase and to provide for the sale of bonds , and, WHEREAS, the City Council passed said resolutions under the impression that said special election would be called for October 8, 1946, and, WHEREAS, said date has now passed without said special election having been called and no new date indi- cated, and WHEREAS, since the adoption of said resolutions the outspoken opinion of the citizens of Little Rock appears to be overwhelmingly against the City' s acquisi- tion of said gas distribution system, and r WHEREAS, the cost of holding said special elec- tion would be a waste of a substantial sum of the City' s revenues , and, WHEREAS, the amount of funds available to the city is low and good business administration requires the careful use of tax funds at all times. In view of the expressed public sentiment oppos- ing the acquisition of said gas aistribution system, such special election would certainly result in a rejection of said acquisition and the cost of holding said special election therefore would be an unnecessary waste to the taxpayers of the city. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF TI'E CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS : SECTION That Resolution No. 1713, adopted August 12 , 1946 and Resolution No . 1718, adopted August 26, 1946, be and they hereby are repealed in their entire- ty. SECTION 2. That any and all authorization and direction granted and given in Resolution No. 1713 and Resolution No. 1718 be and the same are hereby revoked.
