A RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE FOR AN UP TO
DATE DIGEST OF THE CITY ORDINANCES,
REQUIRING EACH DEPARTMENT HEAD TO
DIGEST ALL ORDINANCES PERTAINING TO
HIS DEPARTMENT, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
WHEREAS, the present digest of the ordinances and
resolutions of the city of Little Rock prepared in 1932 is now
obsolete, for since said date numerous ordinances and resolutions
have been passed amending or repealing ordinances contained in said
digest as well as covering subjects not included in this compila-
tion, and
WHEREAS, because of the conditions now existing it
is impossible to ascertain what ordinances have been passed upon
what subjects without much waste of time and effort in the repeti-
tious work of going through numerous indexes and files in the office
of the City Clerk, and
WHEREAS, there are many obsolete and obsolescent
ordinances now upon the records, and it would be to the best interest
of the public generally and be beneficial in a more efficient adminis-
tration of the city government to repeal all such antiquated, obsolete
and useless ordinances and to have an accurate, complete, and up to
date digest or compilation of the ordinances and resolutions of the
city of Little Rock and for each department head to have available
for his use a printed pamphlet containing the ordinances, resolu-
tions and rules and regulations pertaining to his particular depart-
ment in order that he may better advise and perform better service
for the general public,
NOW THER 4'ORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS
Section 1. That the mayor direct each department
head to compile all the resolutions and ordinances pertaining to
his department by November, 1946, and prepare a digest of same,
and that upon completion of same make recommendations concerning

repeal and new enactments to a special council committee to be
hereafter provided for and appointed.
Section 2. That the mayor appoint a special
council committee to be Down as the Ordinance Committee to
supervise and direct the various department heads in the work
upon the digesting and compilation of the ordinances and resolu-
tions and to coordinate such work and prepare an up to date,
complete, and accurate digest of the resolutions and ordinances
of the city of Little Rock.
Section 3. That after the above compilation has
been completed each department head be required to digest and
keep in a suitable form all ordinances and resolutions pertain-
ing to his department which are subsequently passed in order that
he may be fully informed and may adequately advise the general
public concerning the latest ordinances and resolutions concern-
ing his department. Such department head shall inform the Ordi-
nance Committee from time to time concerning changes which are
made in the digest compiled by the Ordinance Committee in order
that such committee may incorporate such changes and new matter
as amendments to such digest at regular intervals in a suitable
manner.
