A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THOSE
COOPERATING IN THE REMOVAL OF CERTAIN HAZARDS IN THE FORM OF
TELEGRAPH AND TELEPHONE WIRES NEAR ADAMS FIELD, LITTLE ROCK
MUNICIPAL AIRPORT; AND FUR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, there has existed in the past a hazard to
airplanes landing and taking off at Adams Field, Little Rock
Municipal Airport, by reason of telegraph and telephone wires
being strung at a height of from 21 to 42 feet and located
787 feet from the Southwest end of the Northeast-Southwest
runway, and
WHEREAS, by reason of such hazard, airplanes land-
ing on the Northeast-Southwest runway were unable to use from
1000 to 1250 feet of said runway, and airplanes taking off
from said runway were obliged to reduce their load by at least
900 pounds, and
WHEREAS, the Civil Aeronautics Authority recommended
that the height of said wires be reduced to a maximum of 20
feet in order to eliminate such hazard, and
WHEREAS, the laws of the State of Arkansas require
that the City bear the cost of any such changes as recommended,
and
WHEREAS, as a result of the cooperative efforts of
the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, the Western Union
Telegraph Company in conjunction with the Missouri Pacific
Railroad Company, the Aeronautics Committee of the Greater
Little Rock Chamber of Commerce , the Airport Committee of the
Little Rock City Council, and P.W. Leming, Manager of the
Little Rock Municipal Airport, said wires have now been lower-
ed to a height of 17 feet, without cost to the City of Little
Rock, and
WHEREAS, as a result of the lowering of said wires,
the hazard heretofore existing has been eliminated, permitting
airplanes to use the full length of the Northeast-Southwest
runway, and to carry maximum load in taking off, now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LITTLE RUCK, ARKANSAS:
That the Little Rock City Council adopt this means
of expressing its appreciative recognition of the successful
cooperation and efforts of E. N. McCall , District Manager of
the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company; W. E. Washburn,
manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company; L. W. Baldwin,
Chief Executive Officer of the Missouri Pacific Railroad
Company; the individual members of the Greater Little Rock
Chamber of Commerce Aeronautics Committee ; the individual
members of the Airport Committee of the Little Rock City
Council; and of P. W. Leming, in bringing about the elimination
of the hazard heretofore existing at Adams Field, without cost
to the City of Little Rock, and that this resolution be spread
upon the records.
BE IT FURTHER REBOLVED, that a copy of this resolution
be forwarded by the City Clerk to E. N. McCall, District
Manager of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company; W. E.
Washburn, Manager of the Western Union Telegraph Company;
L. W. Baldwin, Chief Executive Officer of the Missouri Pacific
Railroad Company; to the individual members of the Aeronautics
Committee of the Greater Little Rock Chamber of Commerce; to
the Airport Committee of the Little Rock City Council ; and to
P. W. Leming.
