NO. 1540.
WHEREAS , The United States of America are now engaged in a
national program of defense and military training, and
WHEREAS, as a part of said national pmgram, the Federal
Government has enacted the Selective Service Act , and
WHEREAS, it is highlyvital to the success of this national
program of defense and military training that persons chosen
under the Selective Service Act feel no hesitation or compunc-
tion about obeying the terms of the Act, and it is desirable that
persons chosen under it be assured insofar as possible of re-em-
ployment upon the expiration of their periods of service, and
WHEREAS, various employees of the City of Little ;lock, Arkansas
may be chosen under said Act,
NOW, THEREFORE, in order that the City of Little Rock may
cooperate to the maximum extent in this national program,
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of Little Rock, Arkansas :
That all employees of the City of Little Rock who are chosen
for military training under the Selective SArvioe Act shall,
upon the termination of the periods of training provided for in
said Act, have their names placed on the eligible list of the
Little Rock Civil Service Commission and shall be eligible for
re-employment, and upon re-employment shall occupy the same
status that they had when chosen in the Selective Service Program.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of Little Rock :
That every employee of the City of Little Rock chosen under the
Selective Service Act of the Federal Government shall receive
pay at the employee ' s usual monthly rate for a period of two
weeks after said employee relinquishes his active duties with the
City of Little Rock and is taken into the Selective Service Program,
