WHEREAS, Current reports and reliable information indicates that The
MISSOURI PACIFIC RAILROAD COMEkNY is about to move all or a substantial
part of 'its office forces from Little Rock, Arkansas, to the City of
St. Lbuis, Missouri, said removal to be commenced on or about March 1,
1939; and
WHEREAS, The said moving of these forces away from Little Rock, Arkansas,
where the said offices have been maintained for many years, will entail
severe and irreparable economic losses to the City of Little Rock, County
of Pulaski, and State of Arkansas, and to the Citizens involved who are
employes of the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company, as well as other of our
Citizens; and
WHEREAS, There are approximately 44 employes, together with their
families, or a total of 129 of our Citizens who will be directly affected
by this action of the Missouri Pacific Railro ed Company, many of whom on
homes in our City and all of whom are tax payers here, and who will hereafter
be required to move out of said City and State and thereby deprive said City,
County and State of an annual payroll of approximately 4105,000 (one hundred
five. thousand dollars) per year; and
;WHEREAS, It is the first duty of a city government to look after the
general welfare of its Citizens at all times;
BE IT RESCiVED= That the Mayor and Council of the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas, assembled in session this 19th day of December, 1938, solemnly
protest the proposed action of the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company to
ove any or all of its office forces away from Little Rock, Arkansas, and
earnestly request the Company to rescind this order and abandon the proposal;
to remove any or all of its general office force will result in a loss of
patronage far in excess of any saving because of such removal; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the
President of the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company, and a copy to the Little
Rook Chamber of Commerce.
