HomeMy WebLinkAbout1429 RESOLUTION NO. 1429 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE BOARD OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS TO PROCEED IMMEDIATELY WITH THE CONSTRUCTION OF MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM AND AUTHORIZING THE ISSUANCE OF A WORK ORDER TO CON- TRACTOR AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Public Works Administration has approved an additional Loan and Grant to the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, to provide funds for the construction of a municipal auditorium, thereby making the total amount of said Loan and Grant $860,000, and WHEREAS, Wittenberg & Delony and Eugene J. Stern, architects, have advised the City Council and Public Works Administration that the auditorium can be completed with the above mentioned funds, and WHEREAS, Public works Administration has authorized the City of Little Rock to proceed immediately with the con- struction of said auditorium, and WHEREAS, the construction of said auditorium will offer employment to a large number of citizens of the City of Little Rock who are now out of employment and in need of work. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Little Rock: /lection 1. The Board of Public Affairs and the architects are hereby authorized and directed to proceed immediately with the construction of the municipal auditorium, and are further authorized and directed to issue to William Peterson, the low bidder for the construction of said project, a work order directing that he begin construction of said auditorium at once. Section 2. WHEREAS, the City of Little hock has immediate need for a municipal auditorium, and whereas a large number of persons within the City are without employment, and the construction of the auditorium will permit these unemployed to earn a livelihood. Therefore, the immediate passage of this resolution is necessary for the public peace, health and safety of the residents of the City of Little Rock, and this resolution shall be in force and effect from and after the date of its passage.
