HomeMy WebLinkAbout1331RESOLUTION NO. 1331 WHEREAS, Mrs. Q.L. Porter and !,,-.Ts. J.D. Jordan, sisters and heirs at law of the James Skillern estate, have donated to the Boys' Club approximately forty lots hereinafter designated as the Lamar Porter Boys' Club Athletic Field more fully described, for a playground for the Boys' Club, /a summary of which is here quoted from,a local newspaper of May 12, 1935: "About 2,500 youngsters in Little Rock, together with their parents, aunts and uncles - -and also all other citizens interested in the future of the city's youth - -have reason today to smile expansively and skip around in a happier mood. The reason therefor is that those 2,500 youngsters now have a vastly brighter outlook for wholesome fun, health, learning good sportsmanship, and growing up to useful and satisfying lives. They are the members of the Little Rock Boys' Club, and the rosier prospect that today unfolds for them is due to a gift to the club of a fine, large playground site. The donors are the heirs of the late Mr. and 11rs. James E. Skillern, being Mrs. Q.L. Porter, Mrs. J. D. Jordan, sister of Mrs. Porter, and James Skillern Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Porter. These Skillern heirs have bought from the Field estate, and are transferring to the club, a four -block tract lying between Johnson Street on the east, Brown on the west, Seventh on the south, and Capitol Avenue on the north. It M will be known as the Lamar Porter Boys' Club Athletic Field, and is going to the club as a memorial to Lamar Porter, son of Mr, and Mrs. Z.L. Porter, brother of James Skillern Porter, and nephew of Mrs. J.D. Jordan, who lost his life in an auto accident, May 12, 19 -4.11 and, '�`VHEREAS, said property consists of the following lots and blocks, loc,.ted in Pulaski County, Arkansas, to -wit: Northwest quarter (NWT.) of the Northeast rnzarter (NE4) of the Southeast quarter (SE-1.) of Section Five (5), Township One (1) North, Range Twelve (12) lk7est. and, WHEREAS, said. property is greatly needed and greatly appreciated by the citizens of the City of Little Rock and by the City Administration, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: By the City Council in regular meeting assembled that the said Council does on behalf of the citizens of Little Rock hereby take this means of expressing appreciation for this act of public service; and - 2 - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk send a copy of these resolutions to the said Mrs. Q.L. Porter, Mrs. J.D. Jordan and James Skillern Porter. Adopted: May 13, 1935 Attest City Clerk. Approved: Act ng Mayor.
