donated to the Boys' Club approximately forty lots hereinafter
designated as the Lamar Porter Boys' Club Athletic Field
more fully described, for a playground for the Boys' Club, /a
summary of which is here quoted from,a local newspaper of May
12, 1935:
"About 2,500 youngsters in Little Rock, together with
their parents, aunts and uncles - -and also all other citizens
interested in the future of the city's youth - -have reason
today to smile expansively and skip around in a happier mood.
The reason therefor is that those 2,500 youngsters now have
a vastly brighter outlook for wholesome fun, health, learning
good sportsmanship, and growing up to useful and satisfying
lives. They are the members of the Little Rock Boys' Club,
and the rosier prospect that today unfolds for them is due
to a gift to the club of a fine, large playground site. The
donors are the heirs of the late Mr. and 11rs. James E.
Skillern, being Mrs. Q.L. Porter, Mrs. J. D. Jordan, sister
of Mrs. Porter, and James Skillern Porter, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Porter. These Skillern heirs have bought from the Field
estate, and are transferring to the club, a four -block tract
lying between Johnson Street on the east, Brown on the west,
Seventh on the south, and Capitol Avenue on the north. It
M will be known as the Lamar Porter Boys' Club Athletic Field,
and is going to the club as a memorial to Lamar Porter, son
