HomeMy WebLinkAbout136761 RESOLUTION NO. 13,676 2 3 A RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION 4 TO REMOVE ALL PORTIONS OF ITS PEGASUS PIPELINE FROM THE 5 LAKE MAUMELLE WATERSHED; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 6 7 WHEREAS, the Lake Maumelle Watershed is the primary source of fresh water for the City of Little 8 Rock and for the various communities served by Central Arkansas Water; and, 9 WHEREAS, Lake Maumelle and its watershed serve over 400,000 people; and, 10 WHEREAS, the recent rupture of the Pegasus pipeline near Mayflower, Arkansas, graphically 11 illustrates the ecological devastation that could occur if portions of this line near the Lake Maumelle 12 Watershed were to rupture and pollute the major source of drinking water for central Arkansas; and, 13 WHEREAS, such a disaster is currently foreseeable and clearly preventable. 14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY 15 OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 16 Section 1. Exxon Mobil Corporation is strongly encouraged to take steps beginning now to remove 17 all portions of its Pegasus oil pipeline that are located within the watershed of Lake Maumelle and to 18 complete such work expeditiously and as soon as practicable. 19 Section 2. The Mayor and City Clerk are authorized to send a copy of this resolution to Exxon 20 Mobile Corporation and all other necessary parties. 21 Section 3. Severability. In the event any title, section, paragraph, item, sentence, clause, phrase, or 22 word of this resolution is declared or adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such declaration or 23 adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions of the resolution, which shall remain in full force and 24 effect as if the portion so declared or adjudged invalid or unconstitutional were not originally a part of the 25 resolution. 26 Section 3. Repealer.
