HomeMy WebLinkAbout3659d rt r ORDINANCE NO. 3659 All ORDINANCE FOR THE PREVENTION OF RABIES AREAS rabies has been prevalent in little Rock during the paltt year, and is a very fatal disease in dogs and also in man, unless the long and expensive Pasteur treat- ment is given, and WHEREAS rabies in man is almost always caused by the bite of a rabid dog, and WHEREAS it has been proved that rabies may be pre- vented among dogs by the rabies vaccine, now therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF Lr TIE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Sec. 1 No one shall keep, own or possess arjy dog within the limits of the City of Little Rock after this ord- inance has gone into effect, except under certain restrictions mentioned in Section 2, and any dog found in the City after that date which does hot comply with these restrictions may lai =,ifully be seized and held at the City Pound five days by the Chief of Police or the Health Officer or ones of their auth- orized agents; after which time such disposition may be made of said dog or dogs as may be deemed best by the Chief of Police or City Health Officer. Sec. 2 No dog shall be permitted within the limits of the City of little Rock unless it has been licensed and been given the rabies vaccine within one year, and wears a metal tag showing vaccination, approved by the Health Officer. See. 3 Every veterinarian shall report promptly to the Health Officer all cases of rabies in animals treated by him in the City of Little Rock, giving the name and address of the owner, and owners and addresses of aiV dogs bitten by said dog, so far as known. Sec. 4 If the owner of a dog has paid the licens-v fee for 1924 and does not wish a private veterinarian to vaccinate the dog, then the City Veterinarian will vaccinate the dog free for this license year beginning June 1, 1924 After June 12 1925 the City Collector is authorized not to issue a dog license unless the owner presents a certificate or metal tag from a veterinarian that the dog to be licensed has been given the approved rabies vaccine within the past sixty days. Sec. 5 When the He41th Officer or the Chief of Police or one of their authorized agents shall have reason to believe that ark dog has been bitten by a mad or rabid dog, and had not been previously protected by the rabies vaccine, such dog shall be killed forthwith, unless the owner has the dog confined at once and watched for at least sixty days, or until_ the dog dies or is killed. Sec. 6 Anyone found guilty of violating either Sec. 1 or 2 of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, pay a fine of not less than 4 5.00 and not more than ?W'25.00 See. 7 This ordinance shall go into effect within ten days of the date of its passage.
