ORDINANCE # 5744.
AN ORDINANCE TO BETTER REGULATE THE HEALTH OF THE CITI-
ZENS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK BY REQUIRING CERTAIN
PHYSICAL EKAMINATIONS; DEFINING THE DUTIES OF THE HEALTH
DEPARTMENT HERETO; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION
HEREOF; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE
ROCK, ARKANSAS
SECTION 1. Not later than August 1 and February 1 of each
year, all domestic servants of all kinds and classes employed
within the City of Little Rock shall submit to an examination
for venereal and other communicable diseases. Said examination
shall be conducted by the City Health Officer and each domestic
servant shall,,_submit to the examination prescribed by the said
City Health Officer. The City Health Officer shall give a li-
cense to all. persons who satisfactorily pass said examination,
which license shall be upon a form to be prescribed by the City
Health Officer and such license shall be good for a period of
Six (6) months from the date of issue. Each applicant for exa-
mination shall pay a fee of Fifty cents (.50) to the City Health
Officer.
SECTION 2. All domestic servants and handlers of food,
whether employed as domestic or in business houses shall keep
in their possession at all times the said license so that it may
be exhibited upon request by the City Health Officer or anyone
designated by him.
SECTION 3. The City Health Officer shall have the authority
to susp9nd from work anyone who has any venereal disease or abin "'I"
municable disease and may compel any such person who is engaged
as a domestic servant or. who is engaged in handling food for pub-
lic consumption or who is employed by any laundry to take treat-
Iment for such diseases.
SECTION 4. Any person actively engaged as a domestic ser-
vant, or actively engaged in the handling of food for public
consumption, or actively engaged in laundry work who does not
have a license as hereinabove provided shall be deemed guilty

of a misdemeanor and upon conviction in the Little Rock Muni-
cipal Court shall be fined in any sum not less than Five Dollars
($5.00) nor more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00).
SECTION 5. This Ordinance is not intended to limit or
modify any Ordinances except those which are directly in con-
flict herewith.
SECTION 6. `;IHEREAS, the elimination of venereal diseases
is of vital importance to the Citizens of the City of Little
Rock, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordi-
nance is found to be necessary for the immediate preservation
of the public peace, health, and safety, and the same shall be
in full force and effect from and after its passage and appro-
val.
