HomeMy WebLinkAbout5837ORDINANCE 5637 AN O :DINAN CE AJTHOF IZIN G THE PAY«4ENT BY THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK OF A PART F' THE LIFT: INSU_ A 4CE FREIVIIUMS ON POLICIES CARRIED BY E'APLOYES OF CERTAIN OF THE DE- P RT AENTS OF THE CITY; LIMITING THE CITYtS PARTICIPA- TION IN SAID PAYMENTS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES WHEREAS; for a number of years the City of Little Ro through its General Fund, has participated with employes in the payment of life insurance premiums on group insurance policies covering the lives of employes of certain of the departments of the City; and WHEREAS; there are employes of various other departmen of the City holding life insurance contracts under the group insu- rance plan for whom the City makes no contribution in the payment of premiums thereunder; NO';i, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL 0? THE CITY OF LITTLE T�OCK, AANSAS: SECTION 1: From and after January 1, 1940, there shal be paid monthly from the General Fund of the City of Little.ock a sum of money sufficient to pay a part of the monthly premium on each group life insurance policy issued to employes of all depart- ments of the City not now receiving contributions from the City under the City's group insurance plan, said payments to be made in accordance with the provisions of Section 2 hereof. SECTION 2: Payments by the City hereunder shall be on ly that part of the monthly premium rate for each employee of de- partments, department heads, and elected officials covered hereby in excess of sixty cents (.60/) per one thousand dollars ($1,000) y is face amount of insurance certificate. Each employee shall be limiped to One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) of life insurance under this plan provided, however, that each department head and each elected offi� eial may secure $2,000.00 of life insurance under this plan. SECTION 3: This ordinance shall in no wise apply to or affect persons now employed or hereafter to be employed in the departments of the City now receiving contributions from the City in payment of employes group life insurance premiums. p II r — 2 SECTION 4. The City Collector is hereby directed to pay in cash from any sums of money he may have on hand belonging to the General Fund, the City's part of the premiums as herein set forth, as and when same become due. SECTION 5: WHEREAS; the City should contribute towa making available life insurance protection on the lives of all em ployes of the City and since the operation of this ordinance woul make this protection available to many employes in immediate need of said protection and now unable to af' ord same, and the immediat operation of this ordinance being necessary for the benefit of the public peace, health and safety of the citizens of Little Rock, an emergency, therefore, is found to exist and this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and appro- val.
