HomeMy WebLinkAbout5876-AINITIATED ORDINANCE N0. 5876 -A. i AN ORDINANCE DECLARING-THE PRACTICING OF CERTAIN.PROFESSIONS IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK TO BE A PRIVILEGE: DEFINING THE PRO- FESSIONS: FIXING AN ANNUAL PRIVILEGE TAX THEREFOR: PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION HEREOF: and FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Section 1. From and after the passage, approval, and publica- off'lis ©dunce; the - business of practicing. - certain pro- fessions hereinafter defined within-the City of Little Rock is de- clared to be a privilege and all professional men engaged in such pro- fessions shall pay an annual privilege tax in the sum of Ten Dollars ($10.00). Said privilege tax shall be collected by the City Collector. Section 2. "Professional men" as used herein i.s hereby speci- fically defined to include both men and women who a_re = ^ngaged in the City of Little.Rock as attorneys, doctors, dentists, architects, engineers, chiropractors, osteopaths, and opticians. Section 3. Any person engaged in practicing any profession herein specified without having paid the privilege tax herein levied shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction in the Little Rock Municipal Court may be fined in any sum not less than Five Dollars ($5.00) nor more than Fifty Dollars ($50.00) and each day that such violation continues shall constitute a separate offense. Section 4. Said privilege tax shall be due and payable on or before the first day of January of each year, except that for the year of 1940 said sum shall be due and payable sixty (60) days after the adoption of this ordinance by the people of the City of Little Rock at the general election;,provided that all those who have paid $25.00 for 1940 undef the ordinance now existing.shall have a refund so that the amount they pay for 1940 shall not exceed the amount proeided- in this ordinance.
