AN ORDINANCE ADDING TO THE PERSONNEL OF THE LITTLE ROCK POLICE
DEPARTYIENT; PROVIDING SALARIES FOR THE POSITIONS SO CREATED;
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE.ROCK,
ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Police Department of the City of Little
' Rook is hereby authorized to increase its personnel in the
amount of two additional policemen to be chosen in the manner
provided by law.
SECTION 2. The additional policemen authorized to be
employed under Se6tion 1 of this ordinance shall be known as
apprentice policemen during the first year of their employment
by the yolice Department,and until they are promoted into a
different classification.
SECTION, 3. Each of the apprentice policemen authorized
by this ordinance shall receive a salary of Ninety and no/100
($90.00) Dollars per month during the first six months of his
employment; and shall receive a salary of Ninety -Five and no/100
($95.00) Dollars per month during the second six months of his
employment.
SECTION 4. At the end of the first tw6lve months of their
employment, the two apprentice policemen authorized by this or-
dinance shall become first year men, and shall receive the monthly

salary now provided for other first year men in the Police De-
partment.
SECTION 5. The employment and salaries authorized under
this act shall become effective from and after May 1, 1940.

SECTION 6. WHEREAS, it is important to the citizens of
the,, ity of Little Rook to have and maintain an adequate force
in the Police Department and said Police Department is vital to
the citizens of the City of Little Rock for the proper police
protection, an emergency is hereby found to exist and this ordinance

is found to be necessary for the immediate preservation of the
public peace, health, and safety, and the same shall be in
full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
