HomeMy WebLinkAbout6428ORDI=NANCE N0. 6429 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF ORDI=NANCE # 6405, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS; Section 1. Section l of Ordinance 46405 is hereby amended to "All employees of the City of hittle Rcck other than officials elected in the City 7eneral elections who enter the armed forces of the United States of America, whether by their voluntary act or otherwise during this period of national emergency, are hereby granted a leave of absence from the City's employment. On their honorable discharge from said armed forces, they may return, to the positions of employment held by tr_em when they left the employ of the City, without loss of rank; they shall retain the Civil Service status held by them at the time that they left the City's employ- ment; and they shall be given credit in their seniority records for f all the time spent in the armed forces of the United States of America in exactly the same fashion as if they had spent said time in the employment of the City cf Little Rock, provided, however, that any person desiring to avail himself of the benefits of this ordinance must make application for reinstatement with the Civil Service Commission within one hundred and twenty (120) days after his discharge from said armed forces or his arrival within the Continental United States following; said discharge, whichever shall occur last. Section 2• The efficient prosecution of the war in which the United States is now involved being of vital consequence to the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared" to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from after and' %its passage and approval.
