HomeMy WebLinkAbout6574ORDINANCE NO. 657+. - 0 AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE CLASSIFICATION OF SPECIAL NEGRO POLICE IN THE LITTLE ROCK POLICE DEPARTMENT; CREATING *TWELVE (12) POSITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT IN THE SPECIAL NEGRO POLICE CLASSIFICATION IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; FIXING THE SALARIES THEREOF, AND THE QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: DECLARING AN EMERGENCY ;AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: i SECTION 1. The classification of "Speoial Negro Police" in the Little Rook Police Department is hereby created, which is and is intended to be a new and different classifica- tion of employment from any other classification heretofore created in said Police Department. SECTION 2. There are hereby created twelve (12) positions of employment in said-Speoial Negro Police classification, the twelve (12) positions created under the terms of this ordinance to be in addition to all positions of employment heretofore authorised in said Police Department. SECTION S. The persons chosen to fill the positions created in Section 2 of this ordinance shall assist the regular police force heretofore created and shall discharge such other duties as the Chief of Police may designate. SECTION 49 The persons chosen to fill the positions created by Section 2 of this ordinance shall be chosen by i the Civil Service Commission in the manner provided by law; they shall be negre males between twenty- one. forty- , . °' ��,,. • ._ -���, �,: _ fiwe (45) years of age; they shall pass a physical exsmination to determine their capacity to discharge the duties of their employment; but they need not be electors of the City of Little Rook, Arkansas, and they need not have resided in Little Rook, Arkansas for any definite or minimum period of time prior to their employment. i SECTION 5. The persons chosen to fill the positions of employment created under Section 2 of this ordinance shall each receive a salary of $125900 per month, paid as the salaries of other city employees are paid. SECTION 6. It.is hereby made a condition of this ordinance, and of aployment authorized or accepted --- under it',.that no person employed under this ordinance, cad ° no, persons claiming by, through, or under him, shall be entitled to or shall receive or make claim for any benefits of a pension, relief, retirement, disability, etc• nature or for any such benefits or other benefits to be paid out , of the Policemen's Pension and Relief Fund or any similar fund. SECTION 79 This ordinance shall become effective from and after July 1, 1943. SECTION 89 The protection of the citizens against the N depredation of crime being vital to the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is hereby declared to exist, and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage• PASSED ; June 28 1 ., Mayor I�f �13 ' ATTEST.
