ORDINANCE CREATING THREE POSITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT IN.THE POLICE
PARTMENT; FIXING SALARIES FOR SAME; FIXING THE SALARY TO BE.PAID
'AE CITY FOR THE CASE WORK INTERVIEWER ATTACHED TO THE JUVENILE
MT OF PULASKI COUNTY; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER
1 position of Matron -Clerk
SECTION 2. The Matrons whose employment is authorized in Section
1 of this .ordinance shall have the duty of receiving the women prison - j
ere assigned to the woments quarters in the city jail and of over-
seeing the safe - keeping of such prisoners and such other duties as
the Chief of Polioe may designate. The Matron - Clerk, in addition
to the above duties, shall perform the clerical work necessary in !

the maintenance of detention and case records in connection with the
female prisoners held by the City of Little Rock.
SECTION 3. Persons chosen to fill the positions created in
Section 1 of this ordinance shall be white women, and shall be chosen
by the Civil Service Commission in the manner provided by law, and
shall receive the following monthly salaries:
Matrons, $100.00 per month each
Matron - Clerk, $133.33 per month
SECTION 4. The sum of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) per month is hereby
fixed as the amount of the City's contribution toward the salary of

*Y +, 'SECTION 5. Because the employment of Police Matrons is necessary.
Ai order to provide a decent and suitable place for the oonfinbmer:t
of women prisoners apart from other prisoners; and because the
efficient administration of police and health laws of this community
require that women prisoners be confined separate and apart from the
other prisoners, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this
`ordinance, being necessary for the preservation of the public peace,

health and safety, shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage.
