AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE CHARGING OF EXCESSIVE TAXI CAB FARES;
PROVIDING FOR INSPECTION OF TAXI CAB METERS; REQUIRING RECEIPTS FOR
MAXI CAB FARES; DECLARING VIOLATIONS TO BE A MISDEP.IEANOR; ATw'iENDING
ORDINANCE NO. 5020 AND ORDINANCE NO. 5068; DECLARING AN EIIERGENCY;
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUTNCIL OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. No person, firm or corporation who drives or oper-
ates a taxi cab on the streets of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas
shall charge as taxi cab fare pore than the rate or fare fixed by
the ordinances of this city.
SECTION 2. No person, firm or corporation who drives or oper-
ates a taxi cab on the streets of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas
shall drive or operate said taxi cab unless the meter in said taxi
cab has been inspected by an appropriate employee of the City of
Little Rock within thirty -five (35) days preceding the date of such
driving or operating of said taxi cab.
SECTION 3. In computing the rate or fare to be charged for
taxi cab service, thecharge shall be made on the most direct route
from the point where the passenger began the journey to the point
of destination of said passenger.
SECTION 4. Any person, firm or corporation accepting a fare
for taxi cab service in the City of Little Rock shall give to the
person paying the fare a receipt evidencing the payment of said
fare; the date thereof and the signature of the person to whom the
fare is paid.
SECTION 5. Any person, firm or corporation who violates the
provisions of Sections 1, 2, 3 or 4 of this ordinance shall be guilty
of a misdemeanor and on conviction shall be fined in any sum not
less than Ten Dollars ($10.00) nor more than Two Hundred and Fifty
Dollars (;250.00) and imprisoned for not less than five (5) days
nor more than thirty (30) days. In the event that there is a con-
tinuing violation of the provisions of Section 2 of this ordinance,
each day that said taxi cab is driven or operated in violations of
Section 2 of this ordinance shall constitute a separate offense.

SECTION 6. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 5020 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"SECTION 1. That Ordinance No. 4968 be amended by adding
the following section thereto, prescribing the following
rates or fares to be charged passengers:
Twenty five cents for first nine - tenths of a mile
or fraction thereof. Ten cents for each additional
one -half mile or fraction atierajof. I�io charge for

SECTION 7. Ordinance Igo. 4968 of the Ordinances of the City
of Little Rock is hereby amended to conform to the foregoing
provisions.
SECTION 8. Because at the present time there is no adequate
regulation concerning the charging of taxi cab fares and no penalties
for improper charges; and because the present condition encourages
the over - charging of taxi cab fares with a consequent loss to the
citizens of Little Rock; and because the foregoing provisions of
this ordinance are necessary for the effective regulations of taxi
cabs on the public streets, an emergency is hereby declared'to exist
and this ordinance being necessary for the preservation of the
public peace, health and safety, the same shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage.
