AN ORDINANCE FIXING CERTAIN SALARIES IN THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS,
DECLARING AN Ea.ERGENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF' LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The employees of the City of Little Rock holding the
positions listed below shall receive as monthly salary the amounts
listed opposite their positions:
FIRE. DEPARTITENT
1st -year Hosemen (regardless of length of employment)- - - $157.50
POLICE DEPARTMENT
1st -year Patrolmen (regardless of length of employment) - - 157.50
1st -year Policewomen(regardless of length of employment) 157950
Matron Clerk (regardless of length of employment) - - - - - 143.33
Matrons (regardless of length of employment) - - - - - - - 110.00
Special white patrolmen - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 175.00
2nd -year special white patrolmen - - - - - - - - - - - - - 167.50
1st -year special white patrolmen - - - - - - - - - - - 157.50
Special Negro patrolmen - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 142.50
SECTION 2. The salaries fixed in Section 1 of this ordinance shall
begin and be effective as of and after July 1, 1945.
SECTION 3. Because the salaries at present paid by the City of
Little Rock are inadequate and insufficient to enable the employees to
maintain a satisfactory standard of living; and because the proper carry-
ing on and discharge of City functions requires that salaries be maintained
at adequate and satisfactory levels in order to enable the City to attract
and retain employees necessary for the discharge of municipal functions;
and because the increase set out in the foregoing Sections of this
ordinance will improve and promote efficiency in the respective depart-
ments and prevent the loss of services in said departments, an emergency
is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance being necessary for the
preservation of the public peace, health and safety, shall be in full
force and effect from and after its passage.
