HomeMy WebLinkAbout6870ORDINANCE N0. 6FZO AN ORDINANCE ABOLISHING THE ZOO AND RECREATION COMP11ISSION`, CREAT- I NG THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT, PROVIDING FOR TIE; PARKS AND RE- CREATION COMPMISSIONIAND FOR O�HER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The Recreation Department is hereby creat- ed, which Department shall be under the supervision of the Director of Recreation. Said Department shall have jurisdiction over the City's parks and all the City's recreational facilities and act- ivities including MacArthur Park, Boyle Park, and Fair Park, the :Municipal Golf Course, the Municipal Swiming Pool and the 14unici- pal Zoo. The employees heretofore assigned to the foregoing parks, facilities, and activities including the secretary to the Director of Recreation are hereby transferred to the Recreation Department, and are made answerable to the Director of Recreation. SECTION 2. The Parks and Recreation Commission is here- by authorized; it shall be composed of five members with the Ti:ayor as ex officio chairman and the Director of Recreation as ex officio member. The remaining three members shall be chosen as follows: One shall be chosen by the Mayor from among the aldermen; the remaining two shall be chosen by the Mayor from the citizens at large and shall be confirmed by majority vote of the City Council. This Commission shall have supervisory control over the recreational facilities and undertakings of the City of Little Rock, and shall act in an advisory capacity to the Director of Recreation. SECTION 3. The Zoo Commission and the Recreation Commission are hereby abolished.
