HomeMy WebLinkAbout6885ORDINANCE NO. 6ggr, AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING CERTAIN COMMON CARRIERS TO MAINTAIN INSURANCE; AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 5990; DECLARING AN EMER- GENCY; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1• No permit shall be issued to any person, firm, or corporation to operate or permit the operation of any motor driven vehicle engaged in the business of transporting persons for hire over a regular route or upon a regular sche- dule of operation from points within the city limits of the City of Little Rook to points within a radius of five miles beyond such corporate limits with or without occasional trips of ten miles beyond such corporate limits until and unless there has been furnished to the city clerk an insurance pol- icy written by some approved insurance company, insuring persons and property including persons and property being transported against loss or injury-from the negligent or otherwise faulty operation of said vehicle. Said policy shall be in the minimum amount of $5,000.00 for loss to any one person from any one.accident, with a minimum amount of $10,000., liability to all persons from any one accident. The cancel- lation or termination for any cause of such insurance shall automatically revoke any license that may have been issued 4 for the operation of such a vehicle as a carrier of persons or property for hire. SECTION Z. Ordinance No. 5990 is amended to conform to the provisions of this Ordinance. SECTION 3. Because said carriers operating into and out of the City of Little Rook do not at present carry in- surance to protect persons and property from loss arising through the faulty operation of such vehicles, and because such condition creates a hazard of great loss to the oiti- tens of Little Rock and because that condition shall be - 1 - prevented by this Ordinance, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance is found to be necessary for the protection of the public peace, health, and safety, and the same shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
