HomeMy WebLinkAbout7235-"i :: ORDINANCE NO. -72 5 AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE.ROCK, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. The following standing committees of the City •wil._oP the City of Little, Reef are hereby establish+. Such standing committees shall be appointed by the Mayor annually upon entering upon the duties of his office. 1 Finance 2 Public Safety fF re a'hd Police), .30 Public Transportation 4 Public Health and Sanitation 59 Public Works SECTION 2. Each committee.ehall consist of four members, including a chaiman and vice - chairman to be named by the Mayor, Three members shall constitute a quorum, and in the event that a uorum is not q present, the .members 'present shall only have power and authority to adjourn until a quorum is present. r SECTION 3. The duty of each committee shall be deci$ed j from time to time by the Mayor and the Members of the City Council, SECTION 4. Each of said committees shall study, consider, examine and investigate and promptly report to the City Council upon all matters that may be referred to it by the City Council. SECTION 5. The members of the City Council by a majority vote shall designate the committee to which any matter before it shall be sent, and in the case of a tie vote upon such a question the Mayor as presiding officer of the Council stela v 4gnate the appropriate committee. i SECTION 6. The Mayor, as presiding officer of the City Council may from time to time appoint special committees for the purpose of studying, investigating and preparing reports to be made to the City Council upon unusual# speQiaY =or unique matters which may come before the City Council. Such committees so appointed shall be temporary and upon making a final report to the Council upon the giestions or matters re- ferred to them shall be automatically dissolved. The powers and duties of these special committees shall be designated -2- by the Council at the time of tkeir appointment. SECTION 7. Ordinance No. 6985 passed on the 15th day of April, 1946 heretofore establishing standing comm- ittees of the City Council is hereby repealed, and all or- dinances and parts of o- rdinances ,in canfl .;ct herewith are 2ereby repealed. SECTION 8. Unless the provisions of this ordinance are put into effect immediately, the public peace, health, and eafety of the citizens of the City of Little Rock will be adversely affected, therefore, an emergency is hereby de- clared to exist, and this ordinance shall be in full force ,vr and effect from and after its passage and approval.
