ORDINANCE NO. 739
AN ORDINANCE APPROVING THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE WEST-
INGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION AND DIRECTING THAT A
BUILDING PERMIT BE ISSUED TO THEM FOR THE CONSTRUCTION
OF SAID BUILDING IN ACCORDANCE WITH SAID PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND FOR THE AMENDMENT OF THE CITY BUILD-
ING CODE THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the city building code was estbblished in 1931
and is in many respects outmoded by modern construction and has
not been - amended to keep pace with same; and
WHEREAS, the Westinghouse Electric Corporation Ya s per-
fected plans and specifications and begun construction of a mod-
ern type building for its use in the city of Little Rock, which
plans and specifications have been submitted to the City Engineer
for approval; and
WHEREAS, said City Engineer is unable to approve said
plans and specifications because of the obsolete provisions of
the city building code: NOW , THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the plans and specifications of the
4estinghouse Electric Corporation for the construction of its
building on the old county hospital site now in the hands of
the City Engineer be and the same are hereby approved and a
permit is_ hereby granted to the Westinghouse Electric Corporation
for the construction of said building in accordance with the plans
and specifications heretofore submitted to the city, and the City
engineer is directed to issue a permit for the construction of
said building to the Westinghouse Electric Corporation.
Sectidn 2. That the building code of the city of Lit-
tle Rock be and the same is hereby amended, set aside and held . 1

for naught, insofar as same applies to the construction of
the' building of the Westinghouse Electric Corporate on.
Section 3. Inasmuch as said building is under con-

structi on and the work t3 ireof will. be delayed unless this ., or4t-, ,
ziance becomes immediately effective, an emergency is hereby de-
clared, and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after i is passage.
