AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR TO
HAVE A CENSUS TAKEN OF THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY OF LITTLE
ROCK; APPROPRIATING THE MONEY THEREFOR; AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, certain taxes collected by the State are
returned to the municipal governments of Arkansas for use in
financing the activities of municipal government, and
WHEREAS these taxes are returned to the municipalities
upon a per capita basis of inhabitants of the respective cities,
and
WHEREAS, the present basis used to return such taxes is
upon the last Federal census, and the last Federal census of
Little Rock does not show the true number of people now in the
City of Little Rock and because of such fact the City of Little
Rock is losing revenue from this source and
WHEREAS, The United States Bureau of Census will make
a survey to take the census of the people of the City of Little
Rock, providing the city pays the expenses therefor, now therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor is hereby authorized m d di-
rected to cause the Federal Bureau of Census, or other governmen-
tal agencies, to conduct a census of the people of the City of
Little Rock, as soon as possible.
SECTION 2. That the Mayor be, and is hereby authorized
to make such arrangements to carry out the provisions of this
ordinance as may be necessary.
SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general fund
of the City of Little Rock the sum of x:3,500.00 as a down - payment
upon the cost of having this census taken and proper city officials
are hereby authorized and directed to issue such instruments as may
be necessary to carry out the purposes, intentions, and obtain
the results sought by this ordinance.
SECTION 4. There is further appropriated the sum of
$74.75 to be paid to the Treasurer of the United States. Which
amount shall accompany the formal request for the taking of such
census.

SECTION 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in cc
herewith are hereby repealed and this ordinance shall
full force and effect from and after its passage and E
