HomeMy WebLinkAbout8016ORDINANCE NO. gull, AN ORDINANCE ORDERING THE REPAIR OR RE1:40VAL AND RAZING OF CERTAIN BUILDIN;: -S, HOUSES AND OTHER STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK; AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY ENGINEER TO RAZE AND REMOVE SAID STRUCTURES UPON FAILURE OF THE OWNERS TO REPAIR OR REMOVE SAM!--,' AFTER NOTICE AS hF`REIN PROVIDED; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. WHEREAS, In many parts of the City of Little Rock owners of real property have allowed such property to become run down, delapidated, un- safe, unsightly, dangerous, obnoxious and detrimental to the pub- lic welfare of the citizens of the City of Little Rock, and WHEREAS, In the opinion of the City Council the present condition of the buildings and structures on the property described hereinbelow constitute a serious fire hazard, dangerous to the lives of the citizens- of the City of Little Rock, and, therefore., a public nuisance; and unless immediate action is taken to remedy this situation there is great likelihood that the surrounding proper- ty will be destroyed by fire originating in such unsafe and haz- ardous structures, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITE COUNCIL OF THE CI17Y OF LITTLE, ROCK, ARKA? The City Engineer of the City of Little Rock is hereby: authorized and directed to carry out the p rovisions of this ordinance. SECTION 3. The City Engineer shall serve each of the owners of the above described property with a copy of this ordinance, and, in case any of said owners shall fail or refuse to repair or remove sd d objectionable buildings specified herein within 30 days after service hereof, then the City Engineer is hereby authorized and directed to raze and remove said buildings, and the owner or own- ers thereof shall be responsible for the costs and expense so in- curred by reason of his failure to comply with the provisions of this ordinance. In the event that a copy of this ordinance cannot be served on an owner, it shall be deemed sufficient notice hereunder to 14ail a true copy of this ordinance in some conspicuous place on the prenises. SECTION 4. The City of Little Rock shall have a lien upon any property for the arrount of the costs and expense incurred by it in the removal of any objectionable building therefrom because of the failure of the owner to comply with the provisions of this ordin- ance, SECTION 5. The various provisions of this ordinance are here- by declared severable and if any section or part of a section, pro- vision or part of a provision herein, is declared invalid for any reason, the same shall not invalidate or affect the remainder of the ordinance. SECTION 6. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed, and unless the provisions of this ordinance are put into effect immediately, the public peace, health, and safety of the citizens of the City of Little Rock will be adver- sely affected, therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
