EMERGENCY, EROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT TFi= LF-EOb', AA:D '_+SOP. OTHER
PURPOSES.
VdREREAS , The Fire Department of the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas has lost and will lose the services of several members
of said department who have been called to active duty with the
Armed Forces, and
WHEREAS, At the present time there is no Civil Service
eligible list of prospective employees to fill the vacancies, and
V"HEREAS, Under the terms and provisions of Act 240 of the
Acts of 1947 of the State of Arkansas, members of the Fire Depart-
rrient may be required to work in excess of 72 hours per week in
the case of an emergency,

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,
SECTION 1. That as the result of the ca-ling to active duty
to serve with the Armed Forces, certain members of the Little
Rock, Arkansas Fire Department, an emergency is hereby declared
to exist and the Chief of the Fire Department is hereby authorized
to work members of slid department in excess of 72 hours per week
pending availability of employees certified by the Civil Service
Comrnission.
SECTION 2. That persons who work in excess of 72 hours as
provided herein shall be paid for such additional time at the
regular salary scale for straight time and no increase per hour
or day will be given for said overtime.
SECTI(.)N 3. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed. Unless the provisions of this ordin-
ance are put into effect immediately, the peace, health, and safety
of the citizens of 'the City of Little Rock will be adversely affect-
ed; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this
orcinance shall be in full force and effect from ana after its
passage and approval.
