SECTION 2. BASIC CO"IPENSATION PLAN The basic compensation plan shall consist of monthly compensation ranges hereinafter listed in this section. Each such range shall include four steps or rates of pay, viith the maximum step or rate being "20.00 higher than the minimum for employees designated by the City Council to work 40 hours per week, and $30.00 higher than the minimum rate for employees designated by the City 0ouncil to work 48 hours or more per week. ET!IPLOY'iFNT The salaries- of-newzemployees shall begin at their classification, range, and Step No. 1, after six mcntas continuous service they shall advance to step No. 2, after twelve months continuous service Step No. 3, and after twenty -four months continuous service they shall advance to Step No. 4,which is the maximum salary. SECTION 4. PRO - IOTION OR AP`TA'ICJ; Sf' T IN rj%TE OF C0 'F1,NSATION Then an employee is promoted from an employment in one class to an employment in a class allocated to a hi7her range, he s'Zall advance to the lorvest step in such hi '-her range that will provide not less than one step increase in compensation unless the fourth step in such range pro- vides less than one step increase. Such one step shall be measured by the range to v hick he is promoted, thereof ter, advancements in salary shall be governed by classification, range and steps, as set forth above in Section 3. "henever com- pensation is shown in two columns after the title of any position the left -hand column shall be the minimum compensation and the right -hand column shall be the maximum compensation for such position. 1- herever compensation is shovTn in one column only it shall be the maximum com- pensation for such position. INCUMBEiITS RECEIVIIIG COMPENSATION IN EXCESS OF THE STEP IN TI1E RMIGE The enactment of this ordinance shall not affect the compensation of those employees who at the time this ordinance is adopted are receiving in excess of the step in the range for their respective classes. SECTION 19. HOURS (a) Employment by the City for the non - uniformed departments shall be on the basis of eight hours per day and forty hours a week except.in Case of emergency wherein an employee may be required to work in excess of forty hours a week without overtime pad, except as herein provided. (b) Employment by the City in the Police Department shall be on the basis of eight hours per day and forty -eight hours per week except in case of emergency wherein the employee may be required to work in excess of forty -eight hours per week without overtime pay. Page 8 SECTION 20. 1'ORKING TIME C011PUTATIONS (a) Working time for persons employed on a forty hour week basis shall be computed as follows: 1 day. 4 8 hours 1 week Ito hours 1 month y . 21.75 days 1 year 261 days (b) Salary computations and working time for persons employed on a forty- eight hour week basis shall be computed as follows: 1 day. . . . t 8 hours 1 week . . . 0 48 hours 1 month . . 26 days 1 year . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 312 days (c) For the purpose of this section, persons employed in the Fire Depart- ment shall receive compensation as now provided by Law and Ordinances. SEC TI ON 21. This ordinance shall become effective immediately and be retroactive to April 1, 1951. SECTION 22. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed and unless provisions of this ordinance are put into effect immediately, the Public Peace, Health and Safety of the citizens of the City of Little Rock will be adversely affected; therefore, an emergency is hereby declared to exist and this orainance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
