HomeMy WebLinkAbout9792s\ ORDINANCE N0. g7gp AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR HOLIDAY PAY FOR MEMBERS OF THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSASs IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF ACT 132 of THE 1955 SESSION OF THE GENERAL ASSWLY OF THE STATE OF ARRANSA3; REDUCING THE MONTHLY SALARY RATE OF MEMBERS OF THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES, 1HEREAS, the 1955 session of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas, duly enacted Act No. 132 and Act No. 133 requiring cities to pay members of the Fire and Police Departments for thirteen (13) legal holidays designated by State Law in addition to their regular pay. NCE' THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSASs Section 1. That pursuant to the provisions of Act No. 132 and Act No. 133 of the Acts of the State of Arkansas for the year 1955, and upon the effective dates thereof, the members of the Fire and Police Departments of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, shall be_ paid for the thirteen (13) Arkansas legal holidays as set forth in Sec. 69 -101 and 69 -101 of the Arkansas Statutes and for any additional holidays which may hereafter be declared by legislative act. Said pay shall be based on each man's daily rate of pay and in addition to the regular pay schedule and shall be pro —rated and paid during the regular payroll periods. Section 2. Insofar as the City of Little Rock, Arkansas is con- cerned, any pay increase granted to any employees at this time will exceed the present revenues and thereby violate the provisions of Amendment No. 10 to the Constitution of the Sate of Arkansas, that from and after the effective date of Section 1 hereofs the pay for the members of the Fire and Police Departments of the City of Little Rock shall be reduced equivalent to the amount paid for the thirteen (13) Arkansas legal holidays as set forth in Section 69 -101 and 69 -104 of the Arkansas Statutes for any holidays designated or hereafter designated by State Law. Section 3. It is the intent and purpose of this ordinance to comply with the provisions of Act No. 1,32 and Act No. 133 of the Acts of the State of Arkansas for 1955, but that to prevent a violation of Amendment No. 10 to the State Constitutions the pay rate of the members of the Fire and Police Departments is reduced, t — 2 — so that the expenditures will not exceed the revenues. Section 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealeds and in order to protect the health peace and safety of the citizens of the Cityj an emergency is here- by declared to exist.. and this ordinance shall be in force from and after its passage and approval.
