HomeMy WebLinkAbout9959ORDINANCE N0. 9= AN ORDINANCE FIXING A POLICY CONCERNING SICKNESS AND ACCIDENTS TO ALL CITY EMPLOYEES, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. From and after the effective date of this ordinance the head of the department will be held fully responsible for the days off granted employees in their respective departments, due to sickness. SECTION 2. The department head shall determine the illness status of the pmploype.and shall have authority to carry said employee on the pay roll, or the de- partment head may require the employee to furnish a physician's certificate to the effect that he or she was actually sick for the time that they are requesting the sick leave, except in a case of accident while the employee was in the service of the City. SECTION-3. The first year of service said employee shall be entitled to fifteen (15) calendar days sick leave. Thereafter, said employee shall be entitled to an additional fifteen (15) days sick leave for each additional year of service, however, no employee will be permitted to accumulate more than sixty (60) days sick leave, whether said employee be employed before or after the adoption of this ordinance. SECTION 4. If the head of the department feels that the employee, due to sickness, will be absent from the job for a period exceeding the time allowed in,°' Section 39 he is hereby ordered to submit the case of the employee in writing to the Mayor and Finance Committee of the City Council for further action. The Mayor and Finance Committee of the City Council shall have full authority to carry said employee on the pay roll if they feel it justified to do so, for an indefinite period of time. Should the Mayor and Finance Committee approve the request of the department head, a copy of this request shall be filed with the Civil Service Commission, and the depart- ment head is hereby directed to carry the employee on his regular pay roll for the period of time which the Mayor and Finance Committee has approved and it will not require a separate ordinance to pay said employee's salary. SECTION 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith 'are', hereby repealed and this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval.
