AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS TO SOLICIT
AND RECEIVE FUNDS AND TO INVEST AND EXPEND THE SAME FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE MUSEUM OF
FINE ARTS.
WHEREAS, By Ordinance No. 5235, passed May 6, 1935, the City Council of Little
Rock authorized the erection of a suitable Museum of Fine Arts on the grounds of the
Little Rock City Park, now known as Douglas MacArthur Park, and created a Board of
Trustees to have the exclusive management and control.of said museum; and
WHEREAS, The collection of treasures acquired by the Board of Trustees through
gifts from interested patrons of art has become an inspiration to all the art loving
public of the City and a source of pride to its citizens; and
WHEREAS, The growth of public interest and support requires enlarged quarters,
with proper equipment, and the establishment of an endowment fund;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK,
ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. That the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Fine Arts is hereby
granted full authority to solicit and receive funds for the purpose of establishing
an endowment fund to be used to acquire additional art treasures, to enlarge or
extend the present building, and to equip such additions, which shall be in harmony !,

with the present style of architecture, and for such other purposes as in the judge-
ment of the Trustees shall be for the best interests of the Museum. In the event
that donors express a preference as to the use of their donations, the Board of
Trustees shall follow such expressions; otherwise, the Board of Trustees shall have
full discretion in its judgement as to the use of such gifts.
SECTION 2. The Board of Trustees shall have authority -to invest funds donated
to it for the benefit of the Museum of Fine Arts in income - bearing securities and to
use the interest derived from such investments for the purposes for which the
donations are made.
SECTION 3. In the event that in the judgment of the Board of Trustees it is
for the best interests of the care of the art treasures acquired by it or to give
sufficient space for the proper display of such art treasures that additional housing
be provided, the Board of Trustees shall be authorized to occupy such additional ground
in Douglas MacArthur Park adjoining their present building as may be necessary in order
to build the extensions, but the City of Little Rock hereby expressly exempts itself
from any and all liability which might arise by virtue of the construction and equipment

of said additional building, it being expressly understood that said construction and
equipment are to be completed without any cost to the City of Little Rock; provided,
nothing in this ordinance is intended to nor shall relieve the City of its obligatior
to maintain the Museum of Fine Arts as maintenance is defined in Section 2 of said
Ordinance No. 5235 of the City of Little Rock, passed May 6, 1935.
SECTION 4. Whenever in its judgment it is advisable to do so, the Board of
Trustees shall have the authority to increase its membership by . The Board of
Trustees may designate the length of the original terms for which new trustees are
appointed but thereafter appointments to the additional trusteeships shall be for six
years.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.
