HomeMy WebLinkAbout10888ORDINANCE NO. 10,888 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 13.06, ARTICLE 13 OF Ln THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE ADOPTED BY SECTION 1 OF °; ORDINANCE NO. 9600, SAME BEING: "AN ORDINANCE A- C1; DOPTING A FIRE PREVENTION CODE PRESCRIBING REGULA- TIONS GOVERNING CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS TO LIFE AND PROPERTY FROM FIRE OR EXPLOSION, ESTABLISHING A BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION AND PROVIDING OFFICERS THEREFOR, DEFINING THEIR POWERS AND DUTIES, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES." BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE Ln ROCK, ARKANSAS: `-i SECTION 1. Section 13.06, Article 13 of the Fire Prevention N -'{ Code adopted by Section 1 of Ordinance No. 9600, same being; "An Ordinance adopting a Fire Prevention Code prescribing regulations governing conditions hazardous to life and property from fire or explosion, establishing a bureau of fire prevention and providing officers therefor, defining their powers and duties, and for other purposes," is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 13.06. Sprinkler and Alarm System Required. a. Except as provided in paragraph (b) below, buildings which are occupied above the heights permitted by the follow- ing table shall be equipped with approved automatic sprinkler systems. Occupancy Classification Height in Stories Ordinary Wood Frame Construction Construction Institutional Buildings: Occupants bedridden or in- coluntarily detained---------- - - - - -- 2 1 Other institutional buildings-- - - - - -- 3 2 Residence Buildings, other than multifamily houses and dwellings---------------------- - - - - -- 4 3 b. Buildings may be occupied one story higher than speci- fied.in (a) above without sprinklers if equipped with an ap- proved automatic fire alarm system. c. Provided, however, that all school buildings, public, private and parochial, in the City of Little Rock not constructed �oc-y r � � r ft -2- with fire resistive materials shall install either a Fire Detection System approved by the Engineering Division of the Arkansas Inspection and Rating Bureau or an approved Automatic., Sprinkler System, with a direct connection to the Fire Alarm Office located in Central Fire Station." SECTION 2. It has been determined that many of the schools in Little Rock are not constructed of Fire Resistive Materials and that there is, therefore, a fire and safety hazard to the children and other persons occupying the said school buildings and that this ordinance will substantially reduce the said 'hazards and remedy the said evil; therefore, an emergency is hereby de- clared to exist and this ordinance being necessary for the pre- servation of the public peace, health and safety shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval; and all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Provided, that any person, firm or corporation not now conforming to Section 13.06 c. above shall have thirty (30) days from the passage of this ordinance within which to comply with the provisions thereof.
