ORDINANCE NO. 11,407
AN ORDINANCE CREATING AND ESTABLISHING FIRE DISTRICTS WITHIN
THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS; AMENDING CHAPTER 13 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS, BY
ADDING ARTICLE IV ENTITLED FIRE DISTRICTS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas,
has enacted an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance Adopting the Standard
Building Code as the Building Code for the City of Little Rock, Arkansas;
Establishing the Same; Providing for the Repeal of Certain Ordinances;
Providing a Penalty for Violation Thereof; and for Other Purposes ",
which Ordinances does not describe fire districts within the City of Little
Rock, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the aforesaid Ordinance repeals Ordinance No. 7888, as amended
by Ordinance No. 9810, establishing fire districts within the City of
Little Rock, Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the now existing fire districts of the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas, will cease to exist on July 5, 1963, due to the repeal of Ordi-
nance No. 7888, as amended;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1. The Code of Ordinances of the City of Little Rock, Ark-
ansas, is hereby amended by adding within Chapter 13 thereof an Article
entitled "Article IV. Fire Districts ", which shall be in form and sub-
stance as follows:
"ARTICLE IV. FIRE DISTRICTS.
Sec. 13 -28. Establishment of Fire Districts.
There is hereby created within the City of Little Rock, Ark-
ansas, two (2) zones representing fire districts as follows:
(a) Zone I. Zone 1 shall commence at the Arkansas River and
McLean Street and extend South to a point half -way between Third

and Fourth Streets, thence West to Cumberland Street, thence South
to Ninth Street, thence West to the alley West of Center Street,
thence North to a point half -way between Sixth Street and Capitol
Avenue, thence West to alley West of Arch Street, thence North to
Markham, East to Arch, thence North to the Arkansas River and point
of beginning.
(b) Zone 2. Zone 2 shall commence at McLean and the Arkansas
River and extend South to a point half -way between Sixth and Seventh
Streets, thence West to the alley East of Rock Street, thence South
to Tenth Street, thence West to the alley West of Cumberland Street,
thence South to Nineteenth Street, thence West to Louisiana Street,
North to Thirteenth Street, West to Broadway, North to Tenth Street,
West to High Street, North to the Missouri Pacific Right -of -Way and
along same to the Arkansas River, thence East along the Arkansas
River to McLean Street, the point of beginning; and starting at Kava-
naugh Boulevard and Walnut Street that area one hundred and forty (140)
feet North and South of the building line along Kavanaugh to Monroe
Street; one hundred (100) feet back from the South building line along
West Markham from Vernon Avenue to Johnson Street; one hundred and
forty (140) feet back from South side of Kavanaugh Boulevard from
Taylor to University Avenue; one hundred and forty (140) feet back
from East side of Kavanaugh Boulevard from Cantrell Road to Club Road
and from North side of Kavanaugh Boulevard from North Harrison Street
to a point one hundred and forty (140) feet beyond North Van Buren
Street; one hundred and fifty (150) feet back from building line on
each side of Asher Avenue from Maple Street West to City limits."
SECTION 2. WHEREAS, on July 5, 1963, upon the taking of effect of
Ordinance No. 11,398, same being an Ordinance adopting the Southern
Standard Building Code as the Building Code for the City of Little Rock,
Arkansas, the City of Little Rock will have no fire districts described
or otherwise in force and effect; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to have
created at all times the establishment of fire districts within the City
of Little Rock, Arkansas, in order to reduce hazards of fire in congested
areas and to preserve the public health, safety and welfare; NOW THERE-
FORE, an emergency is hereby found to exist and this ordinance, being
necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare,
the same is and shall be in full force and effect immediately upon its
passage and approval and shall repeal any and all ordinances in conflict
herewith.
