HomeMy WebLinkAbout117293 ORDINANCE NO. 11,729 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SEC. 36 -2 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ESTAB- LISHING REGULATIONS FOR EXPOSED AGGREGATE, COLORED CONCRETE AND BRICK OR FLAGSTONE SIDEWALKS IN CER- TAIN AREAS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. Section 36 -2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas, is hereby amended to read as follows: "Sec. 36 -2. Layout and design. The design, layout and plans for the construc- tion, reconstruction, alteration and /or replace- ment of all sidewalks, curbs, driveways, both pri- vate and commercial, shall conform and be con- structed according to the design and layout as described herein and as approved by the city en- gineer and traffic engineer: a) All radii shall be a minimum of five feet and a maximum of fifty feet and point of tangency shall not extend beyond a line, drawn from the point of intersection of a property line with the right -of -way line of a street, and perpendicular to the center line of the street, and all curb radii shall be tapered to meet the grade of the outer edge of the sidewalk as determined by the city engineer. b) No driveway shall be constructed closer than five feet to a line, drawn from the point of intersection of a property line with the right -of- way line of a street, and perpendicular to the center line of the street, except where property abuts an alley and the minimum distance shall be ten feet. All multiple driveways shall be sepa- rated by a minimum twenty -foot safety island, and the maximum driveway opening shall not exceed forty feet. All above measurements shall be along the outer edge of the sidewalk. c) No driveway shall be constructed at an angle of less than forty -five degrees to the property line. d) No pump island shall be constructed closer than twelve feet to the property line. �� -4y - 2 - e) Expansion joints shall be made in accordance with the accepted engineering practices, as approved by the City Engineer. f) Maximum slope of sidewalks shall be one - fourth inch per foot or as approved by the City Engineer. g) Standard finish for concrete sidewalks shall be • smooth trowel finish with a final light brooming for • non -slip surface texture. h) Other finishes and materials for sidewalks to be used only in Fire Districts 1 and 2, as defined in Sec. 13 -28(a) and (b) of this code, are authorized as follows: 1) Exposed Aggregate. Exposed aggregate sideway be constructed and maintained, provided any such exposed aggregate concrete shall have an average relief of aggregate of 1/8 inch with a maximum depth not to exceed 3/16 inches. Thickness of concrete shall be at least four (4) inches at all points. No wood divider strips or spacers shall be in- stalled. No sharp or jagged aggregate edges shall be exposed in the surface of such side- walk. 2) Colored Concrete. Colored concrete sidewaircs may be insta ed and maintained if installed as standard finish under subsection g) above. The introduction of coloring material shall be in accordance with procedures set forth in the most recent "Portland Cement Association Bulletin." 3) Brick or Flagstone. Brick or flagstone sidewalks may be installed if laid on a concrete slab in such a manner that the total strength of the sidewalk shall be equivalent to a four (4) inch, 39000 lb. per sq. inch sidewalk. Relief at joints in the surface shall be no greater than 1/8 inches. Used brick will not be permitted." SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval. PASSED: April 18, 1966 ATTEST City Clerk
