HomeMy WebLinkAbout12012lie - ORDINANCE NO. 12,012 AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING THE SOUTHERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE AS AMENDED (1965 EDITION TO- GETHER WITH THE 1967 REVISIONS), AS THE BUILD- ING CODE FOR THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR PENALITIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF SAID CODE; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS. SECTION 1. Adoption of Code. There is hereby adopted for the purpose of securing and preserving public safety, health and general welfare through structural strength, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards incident to the con- struction, alteration, repair, removal, demolition, use and occupancy of buildings, structures, or premises, that certain Building Code promulgated by the Southern Building Code Congress known as the Southern Standard Building Code, being more parti- cularly the 1965 Edition together with the 1967 revisions, of which public notice has been given as required by Acts 1949, No. 267 of the General Assembly of the State of Arkansas and not less than three (3) copies of which have been and now are filed in the Office of the City Clerk of the City of Little Rock, Ark- ansas, and from the date on which this Ordinance shall take effect the provisions thereof and herein shall be controlling within the limits of the City of Little Rock, repealing all Ordinances in conflict herewith. The Code herein so adopted shall be known as the "Building Code of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas." SECTION 2. Effective Date. This Code shall be in full force and effect from and after the passage and publication of this Ordinance. SECTION 3. Affect of Reveal. The repeal provided for in Section 1 and referred to in Section 2 hereof shall not affect C, -G / 0_/0 c � r �• Ir � s t —2— any offense or act committed or done or any penalty or for- feiture incurred or any contract or right established or ac- cruing before the effective date of this Ordinance, nor shall such repeal affect any construction, alteration, repair or other activity conducted pursuant to a building permit or other permit or franchise issued prior to the effective date hereof, or to any extension of the term of such permit. SECTION 4. Amendments. Any and all amendments and revisions to and of the Southern Standard Building Code which hereafter shall be duly and regularly adopted by the Southern Building Code Congress shall be and become a part of this code when and as published and issued by the said Southern Building Code Congress unless by Ordinance, the Board of Directors shall refuse to accept such amendment or revision as a part of this Building Code. By reference to the "Building Code of the City of Little Rock, Arkansas" it shall be understood and intended to include all such amendments and revisions not rejected under the provisions of this section, as a part thereof. SECTION 5. InsQection by Public. Three (3) copies of such Building Code shall be kept on file in the Office of the City Clerk in looseleaf form. It shall be the express duty of the City Clerk, or someone authorized by him, to insert in their de- signated places all amendments or ordinances which indicate the intention of the Board of Directors to make same a part of such Building Code when the same have been printed or reprinted in page form, and to extract from such Building Code all provisions which may be from time to time - repealed by the Board of Directors. These copies of such Building Code shall be available in the Office of the City Clerk for all persons desiring to examine the same. SECTION 6. Penalties. The penalty for violation of any provisions of the Building Code shall be as set forth and estab- lished in Section 114 thereof. J • r J -3- SECTION 7. Unauthorized Alteration. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to change or amend by additions or deletions, any part or portion of such Building Code, or to insert or delete pages or portions thereof, or to alter or tamper with such Building Code in any manner whatso- ever which will cause the law of the City of Little Rock to be misrepresented thereby. Any person, firm or corporation violat- ing this section shall be, upon conviction thereof, punished by a fine of not less than One Hundred and N01100 Dollars ($100.00) and not more than Five Hundred and N01100 Dollars ($500.00) for each separate offense.
