AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 12,501 ;i'1
KNOWN AS THE ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING
STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF
SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, BOTH PRIVATE AND
COMMERCIAL, CURBS, AND GUTTERS ON PUBLIC
PROPERTY; PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION AND
ENFORCEMENT OF STANDARDS TO PROVIDE
ADEQUATE AND REASONABLE ACCESS FOR THE
SAFE AND CONVENIENT MOVEMENT OF
PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED PERSONS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Little Rock, Arkansas is hereby amended by adding a section
to be numbered K, which said section reads as follows:
Paragraph K. In order to provide adequate and
reasonable access for the safe and convenient movement
of physically handicapped persons, the design, layout,
and plans for the construction, reconstruction,
alteration and /or replacement of all curb cuts, walks
and sidewalks, ramps, and driveways, both private and
commercial, shall conform and be constructed according
to the design and layout as described in the Department
of Community Services approved design standards. In
particular, curb cuts and access ramps should be
provided at the following locations:
1. All corners of street intersections where there
are existing or proposed sidewalks and curbs.
2. Mid -block points in the vicinities of hospitals,
medical centers, atheletic stadiums and any other
major internal pedestrian paths that intersect the
sidewalk (but where a driveway is not abutting).
SECTION 2. The penalty for violation of any provisions
of this Ordinance are provided for in Section 8 of existing
Ordinance No. 12,501.
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordinance shall be in
full force and effect thirty (30) days from and after the
passage and publication of this Ordinance in accordance with
law; and no Ordinance or resolution or part of any Ordinance
or resolution shall be deemed repealed hereby except to the
extent of any conflict herewith.
