HomeMy WebLinkAbout13041I RESOLUTION NO. 13,041 2 A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A 3 CONTRACT WITH METROPOLITAN LIFE INSURANCE COMPANY TO 4 PROVIDE LIFE AND ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT 5 COVERAGE FOR CITY EMPLOYEES; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. 6 7 WHEREAS, the City of Little Rock provides life and accidental death and dismemberment ( "AD &D ") 8 insurance coverage for full -time City employees, and the option for employees to purchase additional AD &D 9 coverage, and 10 WHEREAS, in response to the most recent Request for Proposal, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company 11 submitted a proposal that would make it the single provider of multiple polices of the various types of insurance 12 coverage, and 13 WHEREAS, the rates proposed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, to be guaranteed for four (4) years, 14 would result in the City saving in excess of $32,000 per year compared to the incumbent provider, and 15 WHEREAS, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company submitted the most attractive package of premium rates, 16 financial stability and ease of administration 17 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF 18 LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: 19 Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to execute a contract with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company to 20 provide the life insurance and basic AD &D insurance coverage provided by the City to all regular full -time 21 employees and the optional AD &D coverage available to such employees for policy years 2010 through 2013. The 22 rates quoted by Metropolitan are guaranteed for four (4) years. 23 Section 2. Funds for the cost of the coverage are included as a line item in the 2010 City budget. 24 Section 3. Severability. In the event any portion of this resolution is declared or adjudged to be invalid or 25 unconstitutional, such declaration or adjudication shall not affect the remaining portions of this resolution, which 26 shall remain in full force and effect as if the portion so declared or adjudged invalid or unconstitutional, was not 27 originally a part of the resolution. 28 Section 4. Repealer.
