HomeMy WebLinkAbout12817RESOLUTION NO. 12,817 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK PLANNING AND ZONING DEPARTMENT AND HOUSING AND NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAMS TO DISTRIBUTE LEAD -SAFE INFORMATION TO CONTRACTORS SEEKING RENOVATION PERMITS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. Whereas, medical experts have found lead to be a toxic metal used in a variety of products and materials; and when absorbed into the body, lead can cause damage to the brain and other vital organs (e.g. kidneys, nerves, blood); and Whereas, the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development have acknowledged the importance of eliminating lead poisoning; and Whereas, lead poisoning (which can be found in homes built before 1978) can affect renovation workers as well as adult occupants, and especially young children who inhale lead dust and ingest lead chips from lead -based paint; and Whereas, lead -safe brochures or information sheets will be provided for distribution to the public by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Public Health or the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality at no cost to the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS: Section 1: That the Little Rock Departments of Planning and Zoning and Housing and Neighborhood Programs are hereby authorized to distribute lead -safe information sheets or brochures (to be provided at no charge by UAMS College of Public Health or Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality) to contractors and individuals seeking renovation permits from the City of Little Rock.
