Little Rock, Arkansas
January 1, 1993 - 11:10 A.M.
The Nineteenth Board of Directors of the City of Little
Rock, Arkansas, convened in special session under the statutes of
the State of Arkansas, for the purpose of organizing the new
Board of Directors and filing the Oaths of Office for the terms
of newly elected Directors beginning January 1, 1993. (Oaths
were administered at 10:30 o'clock A.M. on Friday, January 1,
1993.) City Clerk Robbie Hancock called the roll with the
following Directors and Directors -elect present: Director Sharon
Priest, Position No. 1; Director Dr. F. Hampton Roy, Position No.
2; Director -elect Jeff Sharp, Position No. 3; Director John
Lewellen, Position No. 4; Director -elect Jesse Mason, Jr.,
Position No. 5; Director -elect Jim Dailey, Position No. 6; and
Director -elect Joan ,Adcock, Position No. 7 - total 7; Absent -
None.
With a quorum present, the first order of business was to
appoint a temporary Chair Person. Director Priest was appointed
by the other Board Members to serve as temporary Chair Person.
The Oaths of Office of Director -elect Jeff Sharp, Director -
elect Jesse Mason, Director -elect Jim Dailey, and Director -elect
Joan Adcock were filed with City Clerk Robbie Hancock.
Chair Person Priest stated that the next order of business
in the organization of the new Board should be the election of
Mayor from the membership of the Board of Directors, and that
nominations would be in order at this time. Director Mason moved
that Director Jim Dailey be elected as Mayor, and the motion was
seconded by Director Roy. There were no other nominations and
Director Dailey was elected Mayor for the years 1993 and 1994 by
unanimous voice vote of 7 ayes and 0 noes. The Chair Person then
presented the gavel to Mayor Dailey who presided over the
remainder of the meeting.
The election of Vice Mayor then proceeded with Director
Sharp nominating Director Jesse Mason and the nomination was
seconded by Director Adcock. Director Roy nominated Director
John Lewellen as Vice Mayor and the nomination was seconded by
Director Lewellen. The roll call vote for Vice Mayor is recorded
as follows: For Director Mason.- Directors Sharp, Mason, Dailey
and Adcock - total 4; For Director Lewellen - Directors Roy and
Lewellen - total 2; Abstained - Director Priest - total 1.
Therefore, Director Mason was elected Vice Mayor for the years
1993 and 1994.
There were no other matters to come before the Board of
Directors and Mayor Dailey adjourned the special meeting at 11 :18
o'clock A.M. to meet in regular session on Tuesday, January 5,
1993, at 6 :00 o'clock P.M.
